Compression Quilt Hanger (Do-It-Yourself)
A few weeks ago, I was digging through blogs and the internet in general looking for a way to display wall quilts. Now that we are full-time Texans, I wanted to choose a location to display the work my daughter and I do.
After reading her instructions thoroughly, I decided to make only one change; I used 1×3 pine for both the top and bottom. I started out staining the pieces with Varathane Golden Mahogany and as you can see, it was very orangy.
As you can see, the finished product is beautiful and will go with any quilt project I want to display.
I have been thinking that while this design is very nice and inexpensive to make, I wonder if there could be a way to use heavy-duty magnets between the two pieces. This may make changing out different quilts much easier and there would be a bit more flexibility in the designs of the hanger itself.
If I figure out a way to do this, I will be sure to share!
The first quilt designed for this hanger is a tribute to many of the dogs and cats that have shared our lives over the years. I call it “Our Best Friends”.
